Another election is upon us and it’s very paramount that we as a nation stand up to choose our next leader. Political apathy is a plague that has scorched our country for years, as millions of Nigerians have extricated theirselves from the responsibility of casting their votes in election cycles. The apathy is a ripple effect of electoral processes so damaged and compromised, that many deem it fit to simply sit it out rather than dispense effort that may turn out fruitless.
However, the fact simply is that your votes matter. The presidential candidates know this and that’s why they’re campaigning. The mobilized thugs released to the streets wouldn’t bother disrupting the process of your votes, if said votes didn’t matter. So Nigerians, strap in and get ready for the fight of your lives because it’s going to be one hell of a fight and for this fight, you need your PVC to qualify and this article has been written as a guide to help you do that.
First of, what qualifies you for a PVC?
1. Candidate must be a citizen of Nigeria who is a resident in the country.
2. Must have attained the age of 18 years, on or before the registration day.
3. Is resident, works in, or originates from the LGA/area council or RA/Ward covered by the registration Area center.
4. Candidate must not have previously registered to vote. If older PVC was lost or damaged, a replacement request should be put in instead.
5. Candidate must not be under any legal incapacity to vote under any law in Nigeria.
Steps On Obtaining the PVC?
1. Candidate must complete voter registration, which can be commenced online but ultimately has to be completed in person at an INEC for Biometrics capturing.
2. A Temporary Voter’s Card (TVC) will be issued, to facilitate the collection of the Permanent Voter’s Card at INEC centres.
3. Collection must be done in person and not proxy.
Items Needed for Registration:
It is usually advised to take along a birth certificate, driver’s license, National Identity Card, International Passport or any other document that can prove one’s age, identity and nationality.
Deadline For The Collection Of PVCs?
The 17th of August.
