At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Afrobeats secured a single victory across its three nominated categories.
The Afrobeats genre earned nominations in the Global Music Album, Best R&B Song, and Best African Music Performance categories.
In the Global Music Album category, “Born in the Wild” by Tems and “HEIS” by Rema fell short, with “Alkebulan II” by Matt B and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra taking home the award.
Although Tems missed out on both that category and the fiercely contested Best R&B Song award—won by SZA’s “Saturn”—she claimed victory in the Best African Music Performance category with her hit single “Love Me Jeje.” She outshined strong competitors, including Asake & Wizkid, Yemi Alade, Chris Brown, Lojay & Davido, and Burna Boy, to clinch the prestigious award.
Following her win, Ayra Starr congratulated Tems on Twitter, celebrating her achievement. Davido, who was featured on Chris Brown’s “11:11 (Deluxe)”—which won Best R&B Album—also extended his congratulations to both Chris Brown on his second Grammy win and Tems on her milestone victory.
