G Smart’s “Love and Tears” Explores the Musings of A Young Heart Learning to Love [Review]

There’s something magnetic about first projects. They hold the innocence of beginnings, the daring of dreams, and the weight of a story just taking shape. For Wosa Chioma Godpower, the Rivers State-born Afro-fusion artist, “Love and Tears” is more than a debut; it’s a diary cracked open for the world to hear.

G Smart carries with him a voice shaped by the textures of his environment: love, heartbreak, and the restless search for connection. It’s a record that wears its emotions on its sleeve — a portrait of a young man tracing the outline of love, hoping it will be enough to hold on to.

“Oyema” opens the project with an uptempo burst of a love so consuming it reshapes his habits. “The way you dey do me so na ein dey make me smoke igbo,” he sings, candid and unfiltered. It’s melodious yet vulnerable, setting the tone for an EP that refuses to separate passion from imperfection.

On “Lies”, he dips into an indigenous language, sharpening the sting of betrayal with cultural familiarity. It’s a lover’s confrontation wrapped in melody, proving that sometimes, heartbreak sounds best when it’s sung in the tongue that raised you.

“For You” stands out for its lush background vocals, a rich layering that adds depth to his devotion. There’s a tenderness here that feels almost cinematic, like watching rain slide down a window on a quiet afternoon.

The closer “Hold Me Down” is where longing takes center stage. It’s less about grand declarations and more about the simple, enduring desire for love that stays, the kind that comforts when one retreats into their thoughts.

By the time the last note fades, “Love and Tears” feels like a coming-of-age conversation not just about romance, but about learning yourself through the people you love. G Smart doesn’t rush to tie his feelings into neat conclusions; instead, he invites you to sit with them, feeling each emotion to its very depth.
