FANTASTIC 5: 5 New Female Afrobeats acts to Focus on

Afrobeats Acts have always made it a priority to take Afrobeats to a newer level one smash-hit-record at a time. With each generation hugging on to a new and scintillating sound and every brand new single released trying to out do the record of the previous “best” by breaking new boundaries with the music and catapulting the African sound far far beyond the African borders.

The climb and growth of Afrobeats has been a spectacular and remarkable one. Every era has been slightly better than the former, the new cats have taken the world by storm while the OGs still have the entire globe on chokehold with every “Afrobeats Soldier” enforcing similar goals in their own way. The objective being a record-breaking spree and global spotlight on the genre.

Every year the Nigerian Music industry churns out amazing new talents and the female department is being notably represented in recent times. Lately, there has been an immense influx in the department with more female acts gracing the spotlight and spreading their talents, sounds and creativity to the hearts, souls and ears of both Nigerians and the world at large.

We shall zoom in on a few of these new female acts that have impressed the Afro culture in the course of this editorial piece.

Rukmani (@rukmanisoftie)

Rukmani, real name Uduoghie Sonia Omosigho also known as “Softie” is a new and amazing talent, her music is soul soothing and her songs lean heavily into her emotions and that of the Listener. Her talents are raw, rare and unconventional; her style of music is one that’d stand the test of time, a TIMETASTIC piece as I choose to refer it as.

Rukmani is one promising act that will undoubtedly find her spot in the Nigerian Music industry and she has the catalog to show for it, In one of her interviews she mentioned that the aim for her music was to inspire people to turn their pain into something beautiful and clearly she is on a path to doing so.

4. ENAKY

Enaky (@enakyofficial)

Enaye Cornelius Igoniwari popularly known as Enaky is a South-side breed, She hails from Bayelsa State, Nigeria, She is a fashion enthusiast and an amazing singer and song-writer signed to NSB Entertainment.

Enaky’s style of music can be termed as Classical Afro-pop, an orgasmic fusion of Afrobeats immersed in classic vintage elements and soul, a pattern of music which has frequently been referred to as Alternative Music or “Alte” in the Nigerian mainstream music space, she draws her musical inspirations from her life experiences and events in her surroundings, putting her everyday experiences into her sound, Enaky’s music bares into your soul and hits the right spots once you connect to it.

Her recently released single ‘FAMILY’ is an amazing up-tempo record which is self-explanatory, she sings about the harsh realities of living, the cunning nature of humans and her awareness to it, FAMILY is a remarkable piece, a top-notch effort to mark her debut into the Nigerian music dynasty.

3. MORRAVEY

Lifesize Teddy (@lifesize_teddy)

Lifesize Teddy is a Nigerian Rap Diva from Port Harcourt City, her style of music is a unique one as she finesses pidgin and queens grammar in her delivery, giving her a unique cadence with which she taps into an afrobeats-fused rap bop, A newly signed artiste to the phenomenal record label, Mavin Records, Treasure Apiafi Banigo is an artiste that’s likely to grace the music industry with her range of talent in Music.

A new member of the Mavin institution with a good name preceding her we expect her to bring her A-game to the scene, taking it up a notch from where DIVAS like Mz Kizz, Splash & Eva Alordiah has kept the bar, Her self-named EP was released as she was unveiled with songs like “Hypnotic” and ‘Butterflies’ taking off instantly to ignite her already great looking career.

1. BLOODY CIVILIAN

Bloody Civilian (@bloody__civ)

Bloody Civilian is not an unfamiliar name in the music scene as she has already made an impact with her sound. Not too long while ago, we would’ve needed to elaborate but her current streak speaks for itself. She came into the scene with a fine and notorious theme, a different direction from what we knew the female singing to be, while most people stay looking at how to keep a man, Emoseh Khamofu also know as BLOODY CIVILIAN navigates to the opposite direction dwelling on the methods to LOSE one, literally, “how to kill a man” her debut song released in 2022 is as KILAMITIOUS as they come, word for word she upheld the mental portrait of her name, A “bloody” civilian in that ramification, amazingly she wrote, produced, directed and shot the music video herself, You’d agree she is a very promising talent, a public notoriety that deserves the attention she deserves.

A while ago, when women were mentioned in regards to the Nigerian Music industry, decorated faces that came to mind were not so voluminous; including the likes of Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Simi, ASA, Niniola, Teni and in more recent times Tems, Ayra Starr & Fave.
