Tell us a little about your background, how it was like growing up and your immediate family.

Okay, I come from a very humble background. I am from Mmaku in Enugu state Nigeria. I attended CIC Enugu, and I have a Bsc in Political Science from Enugu state University of Science and Technology (ESUT). My parents are retired teachers and that came with a lot of discipline as you can imagine. Growing up in the streets of Obiagu wasn’t rosy but my parents made sure my 3 siblings and I never lacked anything. I have a very supportive family and they are the reason I do this.

How did you find music as a very tangible thing to do?

Well music has always been my thing. I have always had a special place in my heart for music from childhood. It’s not something you can explain really. I mentioned in one of my songs I released earlier this year that “music is to me what sex is to a nympho” it’s like an addiction.

Oh, wow ! Who were your musical idols and influences while growing up, and those you admire now?

Growing up I was exposed to a lot of great artists both local and foreign. The likes of Bob Marley, Ostia Osadebe, P Square, Mr. Raw, Ill Bliss, Phyno and lots more. I’m a fan of good music and don’t like to box myself into any genre or culture. I believe music is a universal sound and I connect with great sounds regardless of the language or  genre.

When did you start music professionally and what fueled your decision to delve into music?

I started music professionally in 2023. Before then I was into showbiz as a student in ESUT. I was a rapper and I remember I was able to pull off the first show in ESUT Auditorium those days. We pulled a crowd of 1000+ that day and we also attracted sponsorship from Indomie and Airtel. But after school I went on a long hiatus with plans to return someday. I never stopped writing even when it didn’t make sense to me cause I knew it was only a short while before I get back to the studio again.

How will you describe your sound and how it makes you unique as an artist?

I describe my sound as the Akpaka sound. It’s a perfect blend of Rap, Igbo indigenous sounds, and Pop music. It’s a very relatable sound with catchy sounds and melodious lyrics. I make music that the guy on the streets of Onitsha and Abakpa can relate to. I try to pass a message while I entertain with my sounds as well.

You have been in this music journey for a while, what are your lessons learned?

The journey has been fulfilling.I have learnt so many lessons through the journey. All I can say is that the music industry is different. It’s not what you imagine from outside

This has been a really busy year for you with this song as your 9th single of the year. What prompted such output?

Like I mentioned earlier, I’ve been out of the scene for a long time, and during that period I never stopped writing you know. I started recording again in 2022 so the catalogue was a lot. I didn’t want to put out an EP, so singles was the best approach I could think of.

Your new single “Nekwam”. What was the inspiration behind the record, also share with us the lowdown of the recording session.

Yes, so just like the name implies “Nekwam” is “Look at me” in Igbo language. After the success of “Ifeoma” a lot of people wanted to know who I am so that prompted the song “Nekwam”. AutoCon made the beat as always. We were working on another song when he played me the beat and the connection was instant. It didn’t take up to 30 minutes and we made a good record. I’m very happy with the reception since it dropped.

What are your expectations with the record?

I honestly try to keep my expectations low. Yes, I  just do my best and put it all in God’s hands. But I expect the song to open more doors and do great numbers.

What are your next plans for growth or to move to the next level in your music career?

There are more great songs coming your way. I have done so many songs with a lot of other artists and they will be out soon. My EP will be out by the first quarter of next year too so stay locked in too.

If you could have your wish now, which artists will you love to work with?

I would like to work with Oasdabe, but I don’t think that’s possible anymore. Phyno is someone I respect a lot and I say this all the time. He’s the GOAT and it will be a big plus to have him on a song.

Leave a message for your fans.

Always believe in yourself. Stay close to God and always believe you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
