Weekly Albums Charts Round-up: Burna Boy, Asake, Rema, Odumodublvck & more

Week of 2 October – 8 October

It’s another week concluded and as you’d expect, we are committed to updating you on how the Albums charts have shaped up in the past week. From the Billboard charts to the UK charts and to the streaming platforms.

Billboard World Albums Chart – Rema & Burna Boy continue to dominate

On the US Billboard World Albums chart, it is the usual suspects; Rema and Burna Boy. Rema’s amazing debut album “Rave & Roses” continues to maintain a spot on the World Albums chart. This week, it climbs up a spot to #3, charting for its 61st week. The second longest charting Nigerian album of all-time on the World Albums chart, just behind Wizkid’s “Made in Lagos”.

In its 5th week of charting, Burna Boy’s “I Told Them” maintains its peak position at #2. His sixth studio album “Love, Damini” has made returning to the charts every now and then a habit. This week, it re-enters at #14 and has spent an amazing 55 Weeks on the chart.

NG Apple Music – First Odumodublvck #1 project

It was only a matter of time before Burna Boy’s “I Told Them” reclaimed top spot on Apple Music, with ‘City Boy’ continuing to break barriers both home and abroad. This week, it returned to the #1 spot for its fourth week atop the chart, replacing the late Mohbad’s “Blessed” EP.

Later in the week, the New Music Friday impacted with new projects with BNXN’s “Sincerely, Benson” momentarily staying at #1 before being replaced by Odumodublvck’s “EZIOKWU” mixtape which became just the second Nigerian Rap project to reach #1 this year on NG Apple Music.

Omah Lay’s superb album “Boy Alone” continues an incredible run in the NG Apple Top 10, spending its 63rd week in the Top 10. Only Wizkid’s “Made in Lagos” has spent more weeks in the Top 10 ever.

US Billboard 200 – Rema departs in style

After a record breaking run that saw Rema’s “Rave & Roses” spend an unbelievable 37 WEEKS on the US Billboard 200, it has departed the chart. In that time, it became the longest charting Album of all time by an African act in the United States. Might it be staging a return to the chart??

Burna Boy stays on the chart though with “I Told Them”, which is at #172 on this week’s Billboard 200, spending an impressive 5 Weeks so far.

Spotify Nigeria

Burna’s “I Told Them” spends a 4th week at #1 on NG Spotify, but faces stiff competition from BNXN’s “Sincerely, Benson” which debuted at #4 on the chart with just a day of tracking. Odumodublvck’s new mixtape “EZIOKWU” might also be in and around. Burna’s re-peak at #1 comes at the expense of Mohbad’s “Blessed” EP which spent 2 weeks at #1. It became the very first EP of all time to reach #1 on NG Spotify.

Audiomack

On Audiomack Nigeria, Mohbad’s “Blessed” EP continues to wax strong at #1 since re-peaking about 3 weeks ago. Albeit facing stiff competition from BNXN, Asake and Burna Boy.

Boomplay

Asake’s “Work of Art” is still fresh in the ears of Boomplay users! It re-peaks at #1 and has now spent 13 WEEKS at #1 on Boomplay, more than any other album released this year.

Official UK Albums chart

On the UK scene, Burna Boy continues to dominate. The only African act currently on the chart. “I Told Them” currently sits at #34 on the Albums chart, in an impressive 6th week. Many more weeks are expected, with ‘City Boy’ reaching a new peak on the official singles chart.
