Opjakes Unveils New EP “Mospheric Vol 1”

Opeyemi Jacob Abodunrin, professionally known as Opjakes, builds Mospheric Vol 1 around piano, guitar, bass and drums, shaping a four-track instrumental project that often feels closer to a film score than a conventional EP. Opjakes’ Mospheric Vol 1 belongs to the latter.

Across four songs, piano, guitar, bass and drums create something much closer to a film score, with each track holding a specific mood without relying on lyrics to explain it.

“Wind” opens the project with a melody that seems to wind around itself. It stays present for most of the song, while piano and deep drums move underneath it. The repetition works because it feels intentional rather than static. You can almost imagine a camera moving through a scene while the music builds quietly behind it.

“Piano Song” begins with a warm vocal introduction before turning its attention to the piano. The title is almost blunt in its honesty because that really is the whole point of the song. Different keys and layers of piano interact with one another, creating a melody that feels hopeful and eager.

“Calm” comes next and feels like the most composed track on the project. Bass guitar and piano are layered together gently, and the result sounds like somebody trying to turn calmness itself into music. It has the patience of a soundtrack, allowing the instruments to sit with the feeling rather than constantly chasing a new idea.

“Lost” is where Mospheric Vol 1 becomes most emotional. This lo-fi track sounds like the score for someone who has just realised they have lost their way. The guitar carries that uncertainty, but as the melody rises and eventually crescendos, there is still hope felt in it.

Almost like the music is saying: you need to feel this first, then you can find your way.

That emotional clarity is the strongest thing about the EP. Every instrumental carries enough personality to stand on its own without a vocalist stepping in to explain what it means.
