Juliet Ilaya, professionally known as JULI BEE, explores the versatility of house music on her four-track EP, “Velvet.”
The project moves between house, Amapiano and jazz while maintaining a steady focus on groove and movement.
The EP opens with “House,” built around heavy bass, percussion, piano and drums, before “Juliet” introduces a more relaxed arrangement driven by piano and bass guitar. “Southy” expands the sound with an Amapiano-house blend, strengthened by prominent trumpet lines, while “Vibey” brings jazz further forward without losing the pulse of the drums.
Across four tracks, JULI BEE demonstrates a clear understanding of how different influences can coexist within house music. “Velvet” ultimately works as a concise showcase of her ability to experiment while keeping the groove intact.
