Hope, optimism and resilience typifies Uax’s latest release, his second record as an artiste, “Evergreen“.
African R&B is taking a new shape, and its main acts are enjoying its kaleidoscopic nature. Modern R&B acts have been shifting from its classic and undiluted nature and breaking barriers with fusion into uncharted territories. Just as the genre begins to push its limits, Uax is one of those acts found at the forefront of these dynamic R&B fusions.
Enough time has been spent expressing his creativity through photography and its visual counterpart, but Uax foray into music was more about exploring his abilities than to position himself as an all round and versatile creative. Having had a feature appearance way back as 2018, the need to perfect his art had to take the fore priority.
The musical journey however kickstarted last December, with debut single ‘Safe‘ being able to send word out to the world and put Uax on the map as one of the new creatives to closely monitor. ‘Evergreen‘, is his sophomore single, and it is an intentional one in the message it delivers to the listener.
‘Evergreen‘ is an anthem of celebration as it exudes optimism and resilience. Uax declares his vulnerabilities and lets us in on some personal experiences. “I’m in the moment, taking in the flowers and the roses” hints on the fact that his status as one of the top music video directors is not in doubt while also embracing his new reality as an artist. Even at the peak of his creativity and in pursuit of success, Uax can’t seem to forget how difficult it was to climb up to the level he is, ” My energy, never for no hater or no enemy, lining up they want to see the end of me, but I’ve been in the gutter turning evergreen“.
Just as ‘Evergreen‘ centres on hope, its mellow tone eases and comforts the soul and the quality delivery from Uax with his alluring vocals, it just about solidifies a perfect alté R&B rendition suitable for the after hours and early morning cruise.
Uax is on a roll and he can do no wrong at the moment.
