Tweehz: A Story of Patience, Confidence and Growth (Exclusive Interview)

Tweehz’s musical journey has been one of continuous evolution—from rapper to record producer and now a versatile artist. His progression is evident in the unique fusion and depth of his sound.

Since his debut earlier last year, Tweehz has steadily built a collection of hits, with “Thankful” adding yet another standout track. With each release, he reinforces his presence in contemporary music, leaving a distinct mark on the genre’s dynamic landscape.

A member of the Album Talks team caught up with the act virtually after the release of his latest single to discuss his creative abilities, career and expectations for his latest single.

Tweehz ( X: @tweehz)

Tell us a little about your background, how it was like growing up and your immediate family.

I grew up with my family in Surulere, Lagos. Living in Lagos as a child is always different and it played its part on me. I attended a primary school in Aguda. From there I moved to Egbeda axis, and then another  boarding school in Meiran.

How did you find music as a very tangible thing to do?

Well, currently, I don’t know if it’s a tangible thing for me because of where I am. But what makes it worthy for me is that it fulfils my soul. It’s like I meant to do this and I know it deep down. It’s very easy for me to find something else to do and make money, but I choose to stick to this music path.

Who were your musical idols and influences while growing up, and those you admire now?

When I was young, I adored stars like Fela Kuti, Michael Jackson, P Square and Wizkid. Their sound was the staple at the time, and I enjoyed their music. Right now, a lot of people are doing it for me, Odumodublvck, Young Jonn and many others.

When did you start music professionally and what fueled your decision to delve into music?

Professionally? Well I guess you can say 3 years ago. But I have been very active in music before that. I started playing instruments when I was 8 years old, and with time, my musical sensibilities began to take the stage until I took it seriously.

How will you describe your sound and how it makes you unique as an artist?

I’m a very versatile artist but whatever genre or fusion I do, I try to make it as commercial as possible. I want something I can play in the club and people can easily resonate with. Let’s just say I want something that’s always accessible to various kinds of listeners. This is exactly what makes me unique, because you never know what to expect with me.

You have been in this music journey for quite some time, what are your lessons learned?

Ahh, way too many lessons wey I don learn for this una industry people. Very very few people are your friends in reality because most of the time, it’s just about mutual interests. I have been betrayed many times and many lessons I learned were from the hard way. Wetin dem never do, lie behind my back, steal from me. Omo make I no talk

You have a new single “Thankful” out now, what are your expectations with the record?

I really was hoping that this would be a break out record but life has shown me that your plan it’s not it’s plan. However, I think I’ll be cool however things pan out. I just want to make sure it all leads to my growth.

What are your next plans for growth or to move to the next level in your music career?

Well, I will be coming to Nigeria to push the song heavily. There is so much I can do from the home front, I’m looking forward to that. Also, we will be kicking off the new year hopefully with a big feature. Details are still not certain, but my fans should expect a lot in the coming year.

If you could have your wish now, which artists will you love to work with?

Oh well, I’ll love to work with Odumodublvck, Wizkid and The Weeknd. These people are my top of the list priority. They are people I really appreciate their work, so it will be nice to do something with them.
