The growth and metamorphosis of Adekunle Gold has been plain to see over the years, from the King of Photoshop era to the Adekunle Gold era to AG Baby and now Tio Tequila. As the “Greatest Showman” gears up for his new album, here is everything we know, need to know, and can speculate.
“Tequila Ever After” is Adekunle Gold’s fifth studio album. His last album was released just over a year ago, and it comes as a sequel to his previously released three-track pack, “Tio Tequila,” which contains three of the four pre-released singles.
The album will be 18 tracks long, as revealed by Gold on his social media, where he said, “I recorded over 60 songs and we picked the best 18 for you.” This makes it his longest album to date.
As for features on the album, it is going to be star-studded, as there are seven confirmed on just five songs. Zinoleesky is already featured on a pre-release single, and Khalid was revealed when Gold posted a video of them working together in the studio. Two other snippets also popped up on Gold’s socials: one featuring Jeremih and 2 Chainz, and the other featuring Ami Faku and Habib Koitr. Jaden Smith also cosigned Gold, which could mean a feature. Gold was also seen in the studio with ODUMODUBLVCK, which could mean a feature on either of their projects or both. He also confirmed Simi as a feature, through a Twitter post, her first since “Gold” (2017).
The album will kick off another era for Adekunle Gold, the “Tio Tequila” era, retiring the “AG Baby” era. As mentioned earlier, Gold has morphed at different times, starting from the young, naive, and family-friendly Adekunle Gold, which was retired for the more mature and developed AG Baby (is your baby) post-marrying Simi, then AG Baby (is your daddy) post-giving birth to his daughter Deja, all unveiled after his 2020 album Afro Pop, Vol. 1.
Gold revealed in a video on his Instagram that the idea for the whole “Tio Tequila” and “Tequila Ever After” project spawned from the first time he tried tequila. The calm, chill, summer vibe he got from it made him record a song that same day, and it also birthed the whole new era.
The album is scheduled for release on July 28, and it will be followed shortly after by his UK and North America tour, coming in clutch to save the summer.
With Gold’s insane abilities, various fire snippets flying around, and a particular snippet that made legendary US producer Timbaland go berserk, we can only sit back and be blown away by this start of a new era album.
