Neeza: A product of Time and Patience (Exclusive Interview)

Neeza’s career so far has been marked and sustained by his ability to constantly reinvent himself and strive for growth as a means of improvement of his art. From the fledgling atmosphere that typified the burgeoning act’s debut EP in 2020, to the grown up and smooth showmanship on his latest releases, the music has not been the same. This is the reason our representative at Album Talks caught up with the artist to chat about the highs and lows of his music journey, his creative process, and the release of his latest single “Killamiti” which is already making waves in some circles of the country.

How did you find music as a thing to do?

Music has always been a mainstay in my life. Ever since I was nine, I’ve been performing in my local church as a drummer and pianist. I found it as a hobby and it was one of those things that influenced me as an artist today. Growing older, I realised that I could easily make money with it and show more people my talent. So, I started performing at events like wedding ceremonies, festivals and other important occasions. I also spent a few times in the studio and the experiences there just gave me the confidence I needed and I decided to write my own songs and perform it .

Who are your musical idols and influences while growing up and those you aspire to emulate now?

I’ve always admired myself only. I only derive influence from good music and not the artist. So basically I don’t have any music idol that I look up to but I have a music coach who is my mother. I learned everything about singing from her since she’s one of the lead singers in our local church back then. Although, there are few people that I look up to and they are the masterminds in the music business. The likes of Don Jazzy, Jay Z, Olamide and D’prince.

When did you start music professionally?

Music has been something I’ve eyed for quite some time. I started making music professionally in 2019. This was when I first decided to start putting out music, although my first single came a little bit later. Back then, I started making music here in Lekki with my elder brother who is also my manager.

How has the music journey been since you started ?

It’s been really hectic. I don’t expect it to be easy because there’s been good and tough times to enjoy and navigate through. But it’s about your will, zeal and vision in mind that always keeps you going in those tough times.

What are the challenges you’ve had to deal with to put your music out there?

One major challenge that always comes up will be when you make a hit song without enough resources to push it.  You can make a record and you know it bangs, but there are not enough resources to utilise in pushing it to the wide demographic of audience  out there. That is the worst thing that can ever happen to any artist out there.

Your new single “Killamiti”. What was the inspiration behind the record?

I just wanted to make a club banger. I knew my intentions even before I began to record. I was  in the studio with Goldswarm, he is someone I’ve known for a long time. It has always been  fun working with him, so we linked up again in the studio again and created this banger.

What are your expectations with the record?

I don’t have much expectations with the record. Just as I said earlier, I wanted to create a club banger, so that’s what we did. My sole expectation is that the record blows up all around the country with popular and constant plays in all parties and clubs.

What are your plans to advance your music career to the next level?

This is something I’m really focused on, and I want to take it step-by-step. I always believe a hit and a big collaboration will be massive for me right now, and I’m looking forward to the universe working it out for me soon.

If you could have your wish now, which artist would you love to work with ?

Burna Boy. I’ll definitely love to work with Burna Boy.

What message will you leave for your fans?

Stay healthy, stay safe and most importantly, stay with me.
