Mikrane is one of the best new artists the country currently possess. This definitely did not happen overnight, it took years of struggle and commitments to the self created vision of becoming one of the best artists in the country and beyond. Mikrane came on to the scene with the release of his debut record titled “Mind N Soul“. The song played a big part in his career so far and it served the tone to which other release followed.
New records soon followed including the lead singles “Vibes over Drugs” and “Bad Girl Riddim“. The project comes nearly two years of his debut record and the wait is now over.
Lust N Vibes is a 5 track EP with no features. The project is an eclectic fusion of Afropop, R&B, Trap, neo-soul and Afro-Swing. The dynamism and versatility of the artist is brought to the fore all over the extended play.
Try, the intro is a mid tempo track which sees the multi talented talks about his struggles as an artiste. “Nobody fit tell me say I no try, tell me why I no go bubble, back in the days when the boy dey struggle, married to the game and I was loyal to the hustle“. These lines shows how much he worked his socks off to attain this height in the industry. Bad Girl Riddim is an Afro-Swing track produced by Mikrane himself. This song has a cool and easy vibe it emits and it brightens up the project. The Dancehall vibe also makes it groovy.
On Ice Luge, Mikrane shows us the range of his artistry as he sang and rapped on a Trap beat. This definitely got me hooked from start to finish. I was curious if he would be able to deliver throughout, and surprisingly he did. He did that without breaking a sweat. This is arguably one of his best release, because everything about it is perfect. The decision to keep it short would give it a good replay value. Jaiye is an Afropop song and also the potential party jam of the album. Groovy and danceable, it would surely get a lot of spins in parties. Vibes over Drugs is a deft blend of Trap and Soulful music. It is similar to Ice Luge but more melodious. It is a fitting close to this wonderful project.
This is a satisfying debut project for an artist who is rapidly improving his crafts and introducing people to his artistic direction. His delivery were good, vocals also. This project oozes enough optimism he would need as he furthers on as an artist. The brave decision to switch to different genres shows how determined he is to showcase the different facets of his artistry. This is a solid project. Well done Mikrane.
