The African Pop Star is set to produce an antithesis extension to his album “Body & Soul”.
For Joeboy, his musical projects are telling a unified story. One with different chapters and eras, albeit the same book.
In April, the pop star released his second studio LP “Body & Soul” housing Hit lead singles Body & Soul and Duffel Bag. Various reviews including ours here at Album Talks recognized that whilst Joeboy had shown growth from his 2021 Debut Album “Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic”, the music on the following second album was not too far off the debut in terms of Delivery, composition and even production.
One could binge-play both albums as one and it would pass as one long album. This is because Joeboy is a story teller and he’s got a long tale to tell.
Just 7 months after the album “Body & Soul”, Joeboy is set to follow it up with an Extended Play “Body, Soul & Spirit”. As the title and probably Joeboy’s entire artistry entails, it is a continuation of the story—but a different route.
On Friday, he released lead single Only God Can Save Me. A record that sees Joeboy show a rather rare side as he inhabits melancholic territory as he sings about unrequited loyalty and the pain of depressing sadness. The kind of music the locals like to refer to as “Afro-Depression”.
A different but a welcome approach as it offers a different side to Joeboy’s artistry. Surely, a sign of good things to come from the super-talented act if the lead single is an extension of what the EP—which is scheduled for a November 17 release—is going to offer.
Then brace yourselves for a darker, mellow and more self-reflective side to Joeboy that we’ve seldom seen in this long story of his.
