Impressive, fast rising alternative artist, Homaboroma Orluorlu – popularly known as H.O.M.A releases his latest body of work titled Compilation 2. This is a sequel to his previous project titled Compilation 1 released in 2019. This project features a refreshing blend of various soundscapes including Pop, Soulful R&B, Dancehall, Electronic, House and more.

H.O.M.A’s Compilation 2 track list and credits.

Beginning the mixtape with a soul funk track seems like the prettiest idea. This song has a semblance to the neo-soul wave with a contemporary R&B cadence. On Complicated, the artist sings about a toxic relationship that swindles back and forth like a pendulum. The production is great, perhaps the best on the tape. Credits to H.O.M.A for dynamic change in vocals to deliver effectively on the verse and chorus. I’m an avid listener of R&B/Soul music that emerges from Africa, and this is one of the best out of the continents this year.

The mixtape switches to a happy state on the following track titled Sucker. At this point, I’m still thrilled. I hold the opinion that Nigerian alté artists places a lot of emphasis on the production of their songs. The production is perfect on this track as well. The Saxophone which colours some points in the song is a top notch addition. The message is about the artist admitting he misses his lover and cannot get enough of her. The vocals are perfect and it still amazes me how he bends it to his will to fit in to different moods. Nubian, this is the lead single of the mixtape. H.O.M.A continues to thread the fine line between the Pop and R&B with a sprinkle of indie elements. This is a love song to his lover who he holds to a high value. He uses his vocals to an alluring effect on this track as he paints a flawless lady for us.

What next after three soulful tracks? Fire is a delve into H.O.M.A’s ability to make groovy pop laced with Dancehall elements. There is an influence of Carribean rhythms which makes the track different from the previous tracks. This is perhaps the song made for commercial purpose off the mixtape. This would get people vibing if it comes on anytime. Bamboozle continues in similar pattern. It is a fusion of African Pop and House sounds. An Amapiano influenced track is always a party jam, and this is not an exception. TGIF has a little mix of electronic dance music elements in it. This is one of the diverse sound he has ever worked on. H.O.M.A shows off his versatility and range to fit in seamlessly to different sounds. There’s a feeling of happiness and positivity that this track emits. This track would get a lot of spins from me, I like it.

Jenny’s Journey is a return to Soulful Pop. It is a well executed track in all manners. I was thrilled when the instrumentals went solo at some point, i thought it is a sublime pull off. The producer and artiste have similar minds for them to have pulled that off.

This is a brilliant body of work of an obviously talented artist. The development in his artistry since his previous work has scaled to new heights. Over the course of the project, I was thrilled by his range, ability to deliver by a commanding a different texture of voice as the mood determines. The production as I have stated earlier was magnificent all through. The intentional arrangement of soulful tracks before the groovy ones too deserves a mention. It’s a cohesive project with less flaws than his previous works. He got on well with the producers and they delivered for him. I’m a big fan of this project. To all alté lover, this is gonna sink in without stress. He didn’t make music for the trends, this is timeless music in one piece.

No features, no skips, great project. Alté got a new elite.
