Being one of the most promising voices in the Nigerian music industry is much weight already, and when you have to add record label stress and disagreements to that, it becomes so overwhelming. Some few stars have had their career shift off rail because of similar issues.
Guchi had some opposing views with her record label on which songs to release as part of her latest package which is a 2 track EP. She made some comments on her media and even thought to “leak” the songs. However, a consensus was reached to release one song off each parties’ favourite. The agreement births forth her latest release All Over You/ Mon Bebe.
All Over You, without much reflections yet, is an instant bop. Although beginning with a stripped back vocal of Guchi, the groovy production would get listeners dancing already before the song’s heat moment even arrives. Across two verses, Guchi speaks highly of her feelings of love and makes bold confessions of her passionate desire to be around her lover at all times.
There is not much difference thematically on both songs, but Mon Bebe has a playful and more exciting edge about it. On Mon Bebe, Guchi shows impeccable story telling ability to express herself sufficiently. Also, there are additions of log drums to the production which makes it’s danceable prospect very high.
It’s not so difficult to see Guchi bending closer to mainstream Pop music on every release. If a change has to be made, it must birth incredible records. Guchi however, has kept on releasing great tracks while ensuring that everything she is renowned for are not lost but constantly renewed.
On both tracks, Guchi shows how much improvement she has made concerning making great songs that resonates well with listeners while also being clever in her choice of words to convey her emotions. Her audience are definitely thrilled of her growth and across the two tracks, it is safe to say it’s a win-win situation for her and the record label.
