Guchi’s artistry since she broke out has shown that there is not just one way to the top, but there are multiple ways, which when explored carefully, can also lead to similar destinations. Currently taking her time to build herself a core and devoted fanbase and a fantastic discography as she goes on with her consistent single releases, Guchi’s artistry is one that is planned to the very last fiber and coming into play slowly but perfectly.
Dubbed the “Afropop Jewel“, Guchi has returned in grand style, bearing a special gift for her spoiled cult-like fans who have continued to find solace in her consistent releases. On her third single release in 2024 and her first in the second half of the year, Guchi enlists Afrobeats producer ‘Tuzi’ for the latest addition to her glowing and advancing catalogue called “No Touching“.
On “No Touching“, Guchi explores the possibility of a relationship without sexual intimacy and hopes for its continuity even with those conditions guiding its existence. This is entirely different from the perspective of romantic connections she has explored in her previous records, which always seems centered on her readiness and tendencies to lose herself to the romantic connection she has now refused in this record. Delivering in prime Guchi fashion and what we have come to know her for, she lays bare even to the last thread of her emotions calling for unconditional loyalty.
A standout feature of “No Touching” is its playful nod to James Brown’s 1964 classic pop hit “I Got You (IFeel Good)” with Guchi cleverly incorporating the iconic phrase, singing: “I for come pull up on you when I want to, paranranranran na your love dey make me feel good.”
In what is her third single of the year having had considerable success with “Blood Tonic” and “Don’t Leave Me“, Guchi is carefully building up her fanbase, giving them more of herself and getting herself primed up for the big moves that are soon to come. While all preparations seem to be geared towards the release of her overdue debut album, she’s focused on carefully laying the foundations and taking her time to get more people on the roll with her continuous singles strategy.
While she scored another beautiful record here, it just reminds us of the fact that the little steps make up for the bigger ones and that’s exactly what she is doing. The time keeps drawing closer, and you can’t help but feel that her explosion into proper superstardom is near.
