Emmanuel Onyedikachukwu Odiatu is a Nigerian singer and songwriter popularly known as Emluv. The talented singer is well known for his signature slow dub rap style which has made him somewhat famous in the underground Mid-West and some other parts of the country. He came on to the scene properly in 2019 when he released one of his best tracks titled ‘Work‘. Emluv has not stopped since that moment.

Two years on from that famous debut, Emluv shares his debut body of work titled ‘New Wave‘. The EP contains six songs including lead singles ‘Work‘ and ‘Correct Vibez‘. The project is a fusion of Hip-Hop and Afrobeats to create a new genre “Afro-hop“. Emluv who is also known for his profound lyricism uses it as a great weapon on this project.

The project opener ‘We Move‘ is a mid tempo song in which Emluv enquires a rap-like singing approach. He flows along on the Afro-Trap beat with rhymes that are arguable at par with a purist rapper. ‘Sing my Song’ is a club banger which has Emluv flexing all through. This is a song that is gonna resonate well well nightlife lovers all over the country. ‘New Wave‘ is an interesting cut. Emluv proclaims himself as a something extraordinary as he sings “you know Emluv be the new wave“.

Work‘ is about the struggle for survival and achieving of dreams. Emluv uses a lot of imagery to deliver his messages in a way that leaves the listener in awe. The song was pre released before the project and it earned a positive reception from fans since its release. It is a great addition to the project along with the widely accepted ‘Correct Vibez‘. The outro ‘Cornerstone‘ is a reminder of his journey so far and how much hopes he has for a brighter career ahead. His confidence is high and its not surprising.

Emluv’s determination is uncommon amongst his peers. Artiste tend to follow the trend at the early stage of their career and then switch back to the sounds they desire having made name for themselves. Emluv is not threading similar path, he is going all out to prove himself. At this stage, it might seem precarious, but with his talents and devotion, nothing is impossible. This is a solid body of work to build on for the next phase of his career.
