Despite much talks going on currently of how there are not enough artist breaking into mainstream or the Afrobeats ecosystem is not minting enough stars fresh into the market and with a markedly significant sonic difference, two truths have been established from the discourse since it began.

One, the creative base of the country keeps expanding daily, looking for a means to breakthrough, and this validates the true fact that we have the talent in our hands. Secondly, the process of artist development needs to be revived again having seen the industry spiral out control with the over reliance on tiktok, promotional dance challenges to score a one time hit – which has dampened the quality of music releases.

However, in the view of it all, this writer insists that while a lot of work is been put in to improve the ecosystem, this issues needs to be solved even from the littlest steps. Sometimes, all we need is just to look around and we will find relatively new artist grinding it out from the floor to the top echelon bringing their swagger and grit along, if only we can pay attention.

The Port Harcourt music scene keeps expanding daily with various new artists emerging from the southside scene. The region has been dubbed as a top three creative base in Nigeria music industry. Reminders need not be made of the important talent contributions the region has made in the last decade, and the impact they have gone on to make in moving global train of Afrobeats.

Although, while the scene has produced some of the household names we have now grown accustomed to, it still house lots of creatives beneath the scene with searing confidence in their abilities and art. Ecious is one of those creatives leading the charge of the next generation from the region, possessing so much admirable qualities in their skillset, which when given an opportunity to amplify their capabilities, they are certain to get the whole system talking.

Ecious, born Precious Echendu Ogbumbada, comes from a long line of artist to roam the southside of the country in search for acceptability but with utmost readiness to thrill listeners with any opportunity that comes their way. While music has been a source of strength and inspiration to him since his early days, it was just a matter of time before he majors in it properly.

When he made his debut in 2020, a joint collaboration with Kayehf and The Witch Doctors – a group he joined with some of his friends – it signified a moment of validation to go and unleash himself to the world. Ecious’ music is characterized by its upbeat tempo, energetic performances, and socially conscious lyrics.
