Coca’s debut “Woman” exerts perfectly amazing Melodies (Review)

On Woman, Coca melds the Afro-Pop and Highlife soundscapes to great effects with Elcee who applies just the perfect delivery on a thrilling production work to make it appealing.

Coca ( TW: @ cocaszn).

In a time where different personalities (who might not necessarily have the ability to sing) are dabbling into the music industry by filling in other several roles and in their own way contributing to the success of the industry, the Executive Producer’s role seems to be the one to to watch out for.

Over time, we have seen Exec Producers double down as artists too by taking a reserved role and inviting artists to record songs with them, which at the end is tagged as a collaboration between both parties. Many memorable names have distinguished themselves in this capacity, but in recent times, Larry Gaaga, DJ Spinall, DJ Tunez, Basketmouth to mention a few have shown their respective musical intelligence in the Executive Producer role. Coca also follows in same light, treading similar patterns like the aforementioned models.

Coca, born – Moses Osagie, is a songwriter and executive producer from Edo State, Nigeria. Just as the similitude of executive producers, Coca also does not have the ability to record songs, but his love for music drives him to pursue his goals through other means – by making good music with new and established acts. The very first step in the achievement of his goals, presents us his debut single titled “Woman”, which features upcoming act, Elcee.

Groovy African percussion, arousing guitar riffs and the highlife feels gives this record an instant advantage once it comes on plus the catchy line Elcee begins with when he sings ” make nobody con tell me say I be like Rema, I too like woman“. In the first phase (0:00 – 0:20) of the song, this writer believes Elcee created a solid platform for himself to grab listeners attention. Most Nigerian listeners will always look forward to the groove and then the melody ( or which ever comes first) in a song, and he got that locked in easily without having to do much.

Having already gotten the advantage and ears of the listeners, Elcee goes on to take us on a journey of fantasies about love where he pours out his feelings and gives numerous assurances to his muse who he is very much in love with. The verses too were well taken and stayed on theme. The instrumental solo bringing the song to a close is just a due diligence because listeners really need to enjoy the production solo.

Coca.

A new dawn might just be upon us. Just as pointed out earlier, some of the good music that comes out from thus industry are created when skilled executive producers take charge or supervise the recording process. Coca has definitely scored a good one with “Woman”. While Elcee would be remembered for the great performance on the song, lots of credits also goes to Coca for creating a fantastic collaboration with Elcee. It’s just the beginning, but we look forward to see Coca work with more exciting young acts and create good music for us.
