HOMECOMING™ and AlphaTheta are driving a new generation of DJs forward with Start From Scratch, a hands-on workshop series created to introduce DJing to absolute beginners.
After touring cities like London, Berlin, Paris, and Amsterdam, the programme made its Lagos debut in 2025 at the new HOMECOMING™ space, supported by AlphaTheta. Following a successful first session in September, multiple workshops were held throughout the year, with more planned for 2026.
Designed for newcomers, Start From Scratch breaks down the essentials of DJing — from theory and tools to creative thinking, beatmatching, blending, reading a room, and building a distinct sound. AlphaTheta emphasized their mission to reduce barriers in music creation and open new industry pathways.
The project has featured mentors such as Major League DJz, DJ Spinall, Dope Caesar, Gina Jeanz, Donnie Sunshine, Dare Balogun, and Kitty Amor, each leading intimate skill-focused sessions across Europe and Africa. Lagos welcomed an inspiring lineup of DJs and cultural voices committed to pushing African music forward.
Since partnering in 2024, HOMECOMING™ has also funded full DJ training for 12 students in London and Amsterdam, many of whom now perform at HOMECOMING™ events. Together, HOMECOMING™ and AlphaTheta are building long-term infrastructure, nurturing local talent, and strengthening Africa’s creative ecosystems.
